This time, while dining with Huo Qijun, Yu Yu finally set aside all his little thoughts and didn’t dare to provoke him intentionally anymore; the meal was exceptionally quiet.
To his surprise, Huo Qijun couldn’t bear the silence first. He glanced at Yu Yu, who was focused on his meal, and hesitated before asking, “What do you think about Lin Wei now?”
After a moment, he added, “I’m just asking as his friend, so you don’t have to feel pressured.”
He had no intention of matchmaking or pushing, hoping Yu Yu wouldn’t misunderstand him.
Yu Yu’s eyes flickered slightly, a sharp malice darted through his heart, and for a moment, he really wanted to answer that he was ready to agree to Lin Wei. He wanted to see if Huo Qijun could still maintain his usual dignified composure.
But in the end, he just shook his head and said, “Let it be natural. Actually, Mr. Lin hasn’t expressed anything explicitly to me; he just sends flowers every day.”
In fact, even the flowers were the result of Huo Qijun’s casual remark about enjoying their fragrance, which made Lin Wei change his ways every day. However, Yu Yu was unaware of this.
It wasn’t that Yu Yu had suddenly become kind and good, no longer harboring subtle hostility towards Huo Qijun due to twisted jealousy; it was simply because of that phone call earlier in the day.
A person as sensitive as Yu Yu could figure out from a little reflection that Lin Wei must have sensed his unspoken intentions at that moment and clearly indicated that he did not want to be used as a tool to hurt Huo Qijun.
To say it was hurtful would be an exaggeration; Lin Wei simply wasn’t willing to let Huo Qijun feel inexplicably jealous.
He glanced at Huo Qijun, who had visibly relaxed in expression due to his words, and thought bittersweetly that indeed, only those who are not lacking in love can continuously attract love and are always loved.
“Mr. Huo, do you have someone you like?”
Yu Yu thought about Lin Wei’s subtle regard towards him, and he felt some stirrings in his heart. The hold he had over Lin Wei, his exposed little thoughts, wouldn’t be tolerated by anyone else like it was by Lin Wei. Even when warning him, it felt like a gentle knife that scraped at his ugly jealousy while still preserving his dignity.
He was indeed a very good person.
Huo Qijun was taken aback by the question aimed at him; he hesitated to say the word ‘no.’
“Don’t you?” Yu Yu sighed, looking somewhat disappointed.
This time, Huo Qijun truly felt puzzled: “Do you think I should have someone?” If not, why the disappointment?
“I hope you don’t,” Yu Yu raised his head to look at him and boldly stated a rare honest opinion, “But I hope you say you do.”
“…Why?” Huo Qijun didn’t quite understand his words but instinctively felt they were related to Lin Wei. Suddenly, he became restless, his heart racing with nervousness.
Yet, at that moment, Yu Yu refused to elaborate, merely shaking his head and continuing his meal, leaving Huo Qijun caught in his thoughts, unable to pursue the matter further.
This state persisted until he returned to his hotel room. He couldn’t focus on any of the materials he had intended to read in the afternoon. After tossing and turning in bed for nearly an hour, a flash of insight hit him.
Yu Yu knew that the person Lin Wei liked was him! He had just been testing if Yu Yu harbored the same feelings towards Lin Wei!
Realizing this, he recalled how Yu Yu had always brought up Lin Wei subtly in front of him, each fragment provoking his jealousy.
It was deliberate!
So did Yu Yu also like Lin Wei? But then, what did that question mean?
His answer was silence…
Would Yu Yu tell Lin Wei?
What would Lin Wei think…
Huo Qijun suddenly sat up in bed.
Meanwhile, Lin Wei received a message on his phone; picking it up, he saw a text from Yu Yu:
“I am not a good person, but thank you for kindly protecting what is most important to me. I’ve sent you a little gift in return; I hope you enjoy it.”
Lin Wei’s eyelids twitched. Before he could probe, his phone vibrated again, incessantly.
It was a call from Huo Qijun.
Chapter 23
Huo Qijun had never been this anxious. While waiting for the call to connect, his heart raced faster and faster, almost making him nauseous.
“Hello, Aqi?”
“…Mm.”
Lin Wei’s voice seemed to have a calming effect. When Huo Qijun heard him calling, he finally regained his composure, relaxed his body against the headboard, and after a deep breath, asked, “Did Yu Yu just contact you? What did he say?”
“How did you know?” Lin Wei recalled that cryptic message and guessed that Yu Yu’s so-called return gift had to relate to Huo Qijun’s call. So he probed a bit, “He just sent me a message; I haven’t read it yet, and you called me. Is there something wrong?”
“Don’t look! Quickly close your eyes and delete it!” Huo Qijun thought to himself, just as he suspected, and he was glad he reacted quickly.
Lin Wei smiled and said, “How do I delete it with my eyes closed? What if he needs to contact me for something? Do you know what it is?”
“I do know,” Huo Qijun smirked, unsure if he should walk into a trap, but thinking about it seriously, what would deleting the message even do? Yu Yu had a mouth!
“Can you say?” Lin Wei felt that Yu Yu’s message was not a prank or a lie, but he couldn’t think of what Yu Yu could consider a gift that was related to Huo Qijun.
After all, he only guessed that Yu Yu had most likely noticed Huo Qijun’s extraordinary possessiveness, without knowing that everyone unanimously believed he was deeply in love with Huo Qijun.
Coincidentally, Huo Qijun thought the same.
“It can be…” His voice gradually lowered. Thankfully, being on the phone helped lessen some embarrassment. After hesitating for a long while, he finally steeled himself and confessed, “He just asked me if I have someone I like, but I didn’t answer him!”
After speaking, he waited for Lin Wei’s reaction, ready to defend his silence based on the situation, but the scene he had anticipated—Lin Wei being disappointed or even withdrawing—never occurred.
